S/Sgt James L. Raymer enlisted at Fort McPherson Georgia on 9 October 1943.Statement from Capt C. M. Cronin:
"Aircraft B-17G 44-8518, Lt Wagoner flying deputy lead of the high squadron, called over VHF and wanted fighter support right after the rally point. He had three engines feathered and was trying to make friendly territory. At 1105 hours Lt Wagoner called in and asked for a fix and was given position of 7 miles North of Brandenburg. At 1109 hours he again called for fighter support."
Sole survivor, T/Sgt. Josef Korosek, was captured at Lohne at 14.00 CET. His aircraft had been finished off by Maj Karl Borris of Stab JG 26 whose claim was timed at 13.36 CET, west of Lingen.
