T/5 John G. Pinto joined the New York National Guard in 1935 and was honorably discharged in 1938. He reentered the service in New York City, New York on 3 February 1941.

In a house a stock of bangalores and dynamite is stored and prepared for use. In the afternoon of 22 January this stock explodes, destroying the house completely, wounding several men and killing Cpl Frank A. Bergonzi, Cpl John J. Cuneo, T/5 John G. Pinto, T/5 Antonio Muscente, Pfc Frank M. Reese and Pfc Rosario J. Maniscalco. All these men are buried at Margraten.
