2nd Lt George A. Pasvanis attended Youngstown College and worked in an automobile factory before he joined the US Army Air Corps Reserve in Cleveland, Ohio, on 11 August 1942.

426 B-17s were dispatched but encountered very high clouds over Denmark and North Germany and were recalled.

Eyewitness statement from the MACR:
'Aircraft was last seen at about 1302 hours at 5430N - 0825E at 15,000 feet. This aircraft entered a cloud bank, making a turn to the right as it entered. It was in no difficulty as it entered the clouds, but was not seen again.'

The entire crew was killed.
