More information

1st Lt Francis P. Page graduated from Fairport High School in 1933.

He entered the Army in 1942. He was commissioned a second lieutenant in the cavalry at Fort Knox, Kentucky on 6 March 1943 and was sent overseas in March 1944.

He was awarded the Purple Heart Medal the first time for shrapnel wounds in his hand sustained during action near the German border.

On 21 November 1944, Lt Page's and S/Sgt Hutching's platoons of B Company were attached to the 3rd Battalion of the 116th Infantry Regiment for the attack on Englesdorf. Three tanks of S/Sgt Hutching were disabled by teller mines, but the crews continued to fight, thus causing many enemy casaulties and aiding the other tanks and infantry to move into the southwestern edge of Koslar. In this stage of the battle, Lt Page's platoon lost three tanks to enemy anti-tank guns. Lt Page was killed in this action. He was killed while attempting to rescue two og his men who were wounded. For this action he was awarded the Silver Star Medal posthumously.

He is remembered at a cemetery in Newark, New York.
