T/Sgt John E. Orendorff graduated from William Penn Senior High School with the class of 1940 and was employed at the York Safe and Lock Company.He enlisted in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania on 30 September 1942 and was sent overseas in April 1944.
He was wounded two times, on 15 July and on 23 July 1944 for which he was awarded the Purple Heart Medal and an Oak Leaf Cluster.
After recovering from this second wound, he rejoined his unit on 25 August 1944.
Sgt Orendorff left behind his wife and a son who he had never seen.
