More information
Pfc Cyril J. Meyer enlisted at Fort Thomas Newport, Kentucky on 1 August 1941.He was wounded in action on 6 August 1944 in France and after treatment he rejoined his unit.
He was awarded the Silver Star Medal posthumously. The citation reads: Pfc Cyril Meyer was acting as radio operator for the forward observer with company I. In the advance, Company I met heavy flat trajectory 20mm AAA fire at a range of 150 yards which temporarily pinned the company down. Pfc Meyer retarded in weight with a 300 radio, attempted to move across open terrain to the forward observer's position. In so doing he was fatally wounded by the intense fire. His conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty reflect the highest credit upon himself and exemplify the finest traditions of the armed forces of the United States.
