Pvt Arthur T. Long graduated from Naselle High School as an honor student, and he was outstanding in football, basketball and track. He attended the University of Washington until he enlisted in Seattle, Washington on 12 March 1943. He was in the army engineer training school at Purdue University for several months.His parents immigrated from Finland in the early years of the 20th century.
