Pvt Richard H. Gentzel attended Harris Township High School and was employed at a State College Shoe.

He volunteered for the Army of the United States in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania on 2 March 1942 and was sent overseas in April 1943 and took part in the landings in North Africa and Sicily.

He was reported missing in action during a patrol in the wooded area in the vicinity of the Wylerbaan, close to the Thornsche Molen.
