Lt Kenyon completed four years of high school and was a former student at the University of Nebraska. He was enrolled in the College of Agriculture when he entered the Nebraska National Guard in December of 1940. After serving eight months in Alaska, he was transferred to the field artillery OCS at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, where he received his commission.
