1st Lt Richard H. Holstein graduated from Cleveland Heights High School and graduated from the University of Texas in 1941.

He was awarded the Silver Star for gallantry in action on 14 September 1944 in Germany. While acting as battalion artillery liaison officer in a successful breach in the Siegfried Line, Holstein repeatedly exposed himself to intense enemy machinegun, mortar and artillery fire when he went to the front line time and time again for the purpose of adjusting artillery fire.

He had been taken prisoner in Luxembourg in November 1944 and died in a German prison camp.
