Pvt Jim R. Truett attended Quachita Parish High School for three years and was a newsboy. He enlisted in Shreveport, Louisianna on 18 December 1942.

Pvt Truett was awarded the Bronze Star Medal twice. One of the citations cited: For heroic achievement in action on 23 November 1944 and for heroic achievement and service from 1 October 1944 to 27 March 1945 in Belgium and Germany. Pvt Truett distinguished himself by outstanding performance of duty as a driver. Due to his aggressiveness, good judgement, and coolness under fire, he completed many dangerous reconnaissance missions in areas under heavy enemy fire. On many occasions he served in the capacity of a section sergeant, accomplishing all missions assigned him in an exemplary manner. While on a mission his vehicle hit an enemy mine and he was killed. Pvt Truett's great courage and devotion to duty will be a lasting inspiration to his comrades and reflect great credit on himself and the Armed Forces of the United States.
