Statement from 2nd Lt Robert P. Catlin.
"B-24 with a 'J' small 'H' on tail in target area off to our left, one engine feathered and another smoking, losing altitude rapidly and firing red glares as he was going down. 1330 hours at 21,000 feet. Saw Crocketts ship lagging with #1 engine feathered about 1415 at 15,000 feet. He was firing red flares. He was below us. He was tossing out things."

Statement from 2nd Lt Homer W. Dallacqua.
"Lt Hubert R. Cripe, Pilot and Lt Russell A. Anderson, Co-Pilot jumped and were capture with me at the same time. I saw 2nd Lt Maurice A. Dinneen bail out.
The Germans tell us, only seven parachutes were seen. Three of us were captured and the Germans found four bodies".

Mack Garrett was killed in the crash. His body was recovered from the IJsselmeer near Volendam, the Netherlands on 19 April 1944, 1700 hours . He was interred on Oosterbegraafplaats in Amsterdam on April 25, 1944, section 69, grave 78/1.
Mack Garrett had served in the Merchant Marine before joining the army air corps in November, 1942. While serving with the Merchant Marine, his ship was torpedoed and sunk in the North Atlantic.
