Sgt Bob H. Brown graduated from Jefferson Township High School in 1939. He was selected as the most popular senior boy in the class in the Senior Tour Contest, conducted by Wilmington merchants and received a trip to the New York Worlds Fair. He also played in the Jefferson basketball team while in high school.

He was a machinist in an airplane factory in Kansas.

He enlisted at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas on 16 December 1942 and was sent overseas on 14 September 1943.
He joined his unit from Replacement Depot on 16 October 1944.
