Returning crews of 492nd reported that 0928, near IP, the fighter escort was drawn off to protect another formation. Then 60 to 80 FW-190's hit our low rear squadron, continuing the attack until all were put out of action. Meanwhile, our lead squadron was fighting off other attacks.
