More information
Returning crews of 492nd reported that at 0928, near the IP, the fighter escort was drawn off to protect another formation. Then 60 to 80 FW 190's hit our low rear squadron, continuing the attack until all were put out of action. Meanwhile, our lead squadron was fighting off other attacks. Altough various 492nd planes were seen to go down and chutes open, individual A/C could not be identified.Source of information: Peter Schouteten, Michel Beckers, www.wwiimemorial.com, www.ancestry.com - WWII Draft Card
