Frank J. Corl graduated from Larchwood High School in 1942 and went to Minnesota Bible College to become a minister. In February 1943, he left school to join the army.He trained at Camp Roberts, California, and then he served 10 months in the Aleutian Islands. He volunteered for duty as a paratrooper, trained at Fort Benning, Georgia, and was sent overseas on 29 January 1945.
