S/Sgt Robert A. Johnson served in the Pacific and European theater. He was a ground crewman in the Pacific for 18 months before returning for training as a Flying Fortress waist gunner. He was assigned to the 8th Air Force in England in January 1945.

Three crewmen were shot by SS troops after being captured.
