"Staff Sgt. Dale W. Golden, reported missing in action on 5 November 1944, over Germany was killed in action on the same day, according to official word received recently by his wife. Mrs. Golden is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W.J. Preston, who live west of town. She is now in Matoon, Ill., visiting at the home of her husband’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Dewey Golden. Sgt. Golden was awarded the Air Medal for “courage, coolness and skill” displayed on bombing attacks over Nazi Europe, as waist gunner on a B-17 Flying Fortress in the Eight Air Force group commanded by Col. Frank P. Bostrom of Bangor, Me., in October 1944.
Before entering the AAF in July, 1943, he was a baker with the Hoosier Baking Company in Indianapolis."
