2nd Lt Haggerty graduated from West High School an he was employed by the Rochester Products Division of General Motors Corporation.

He joined the Air Corps of the U.S. Army Reserve in Rochester, New York on 7 November 1942.

The airplane was attacked by enemy fights which caused a fire of the left wing. It went out of control and hit airplane 42-102929 with his left wing. The aiplane exploded in mid-air.

Nine crew members were killed, one survived and was taken prisoner.
