Pfc George M. Bertonneau graduated from John Muir High School in 1931.

He was awarded the Silver Star postumously for actions on the day of his death. On that day he destroyed a machine gun that held up his squad, carried ammunition under artillery fire and was mortally wounded while attempting to aid a comrade.
