Pvt Eckert graduated from Jonestown High School in 1943.He enlisted in New Cumberland, Pennsylvania on 30 November 1943 and received training at Camp Blanding, Florida. He was graduated as a paratrooper at Fort Benning, Georgia in May 1944.
