Pvt William Elmer Baker volunteered for the Army of the United States on 21 February 1942. he first served as an instructor. On 8 November 1943 his request for transfer to the paratroopers was granted. He was sent to France in May 1944.Pvt Baker was initially buried at the temporary American Military Cemetery of Son, The Netherlands.
