1st Lt Edward G. Tyree graduated from E.C. Glass High School in 1932 and studied at Corcoran School of Art in Washington, DC. He was employed at the Export Leaf Tobacco Company.He enlisted in Roanoke, Virginia on 18 June 1942.
He was wounded when he jumped in the Netherlands and returned to duty after treatment in a hospital in England. For this wound he was awarded the Purple Heart Medal a first time.
Lt Tyree was first buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery of Grand Failly, France.
