2nd Lt George S. Bassett graduated with honors from Saratoga Springs High School and attended Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut.He joined the U.S. Army Reserve in Hartford, Connecticut on 31 August 1942.
Lt Bassett suffered a basal skull fracture as a result of an airplane crash 9 miles Southeast of Krefeld. He died of his wounds in the municipal hospital of Krefeld.
He was first buried at Margraten on 26 July 1945. He was disinterred on 27 August 1948 and his remains were prepared and placed in a casket on 3 September 1948. He was given his final resting place in February 1949.
