1st Lt John A. Skiscim joined the Army in Los Angeles, California on 10 August 1942. He attended Olyphant High School for 4 years.

He was wounded on mission of 23 February 1945. Though the wound was in the leg, loss of blood was considerable. Although wounded seriously by antiaircraft fire, he remained at his post and successfully bombed a second target. For his action he was awarded the Silver Star.
Upon landing, the medics began giving blood transfusions. Lt Skiscim died shortly after reaching the hospital.

Lt Skiscim was first buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery of Champigneul, France.
