More information

Lt Mc Guire joined his unit from the 41st Replacement Battalion on 29 July 1944.

He was awarded the Silver Star posthumously for his action on the day of his death. The citation reads: Although Lt Mc Guire had suffered extreme exposure during the preceding day and night, he readily organized his company and mounted them on tanks to make a daylight attack on Cherain, Belgium. Realizing that the attack would result in almost certain death for those riding in the first tanks, he unhesitantly mounted one of the leading tanks in order to inspire the members of his company and mounted his remaining officers on the succeeding tank. The outstanding gallantry, personal courage and devotion to duty displayed by Lt Mc Guire reflect the highest credit upon himself and exemplify the finest traditions of the armed forces of the Armed Forces of the United States.
