2nd Lt Ival E. Butler was a sales clerk.He enlisted at Fort Benjamin Harrison, Indiana, on 4 February 1942.
2nd Lt Butler was running low on gas. He probably bailed out of his aircraft. Air-Sea Rescue had boats at the position and searched for approximately 30 minutes, but without result.
