More information

Lt Hascall attended Michigan Technological University. He received two degrees, a Bachelor of Science in Geology and in Mining Engineering. He worked as a mining engineer and geologist for the Colorado Fuel & Iron Company in Pueblo, Colorado.

He enlisted on 7 April 1942.

His plane was shot down by Lt Leopold Munster in a Bf 109G of JG 3/5.

He was able to bail out, but due to the strong wind, he came down in a nearby lake and drowned. Residents saw the crash and tried to resuscitate Lt Hascall, but he died in their arms.

Knowing that he was an excellent swimmer makes this even more sad.

He was buried at the local cemetery on the afternoon of 3 December 1944. A service was held by Rev. Hoekstra of the Reformed Church. The same afternoon, his grave was covered with flowers. After the war, his remains were transferred to Margraten. Pieces of his airplane were discovered in 1981.
