Pvt Albert T. Smith was a graduate of the Stevens Trade School and the Philadelphia School of the Bible.He enlisted in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on 14 July 1944 and went overseas January 1945.
He was awarded the Silver Star medal posthumously. The citation reads:
"During an attack on Andler, Belgium, Pvt Smith’s company suffered heavy casualties. On his own initiative, Pvt Smith rushed form a place of comparative safety to an exposed position which was under enemy observation and intense fire from artillery, mortars and small arms. After administering first aid to one of the casualties, Pvt Smith moved forward to treat another injured soldier. While advancing he was struck and mortally wounded by mortar."
