Pfc Robert E. Pyle he enlisted in Clarksburg, West Virginia on 2 December 1943. He was sent overseas October 1944.On 1 January 1945, L Company lost ten men in Bonnerue.
Together with several other casualties, they were listed as killed in action on 2 January in Bras. This is incorrect but this mistake is most likely caused by the confusion during this period of fierce fighting.
He was first buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery in Grand Failly, France.
He is remembered at the Mount Olive Cemetery in Inkerman, Hardy County, West Virginia.
