More information

1st Lt John E. McCarley graduated from Port Chester High School and attended Colby College for one year. He was a driver.

He enlisted at Camp Upton, New York on 25 March 1942. He was sent overseas on 18 October 1944.

On 1 January 1945, L Company lost ten men in Bonnerue.

Together with several other casualties, they were listed as killed in action on 2 January in Bras. This is incorrect but this mistake is most likely caused by the confusion during this period of fierce fighting.

He was first buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery in Grand Failly, France.
