Pvt Donald W. Cooey attended high school for four years and was employed at the Lincoln Electric Company before he enlisted in Cleveland, Ohio on 23 December 1943.He died in a portable surgical evacuation, or T/O convalescent hospital to the effects of artillery shell fragments in his chest received on 23 December 1944.
He was first buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery in Grand-Failly, France.
