1st Lt Tonnis Boukamp graduated from Port Huron High School, class of May 1939. He attended Port Huron Junior College for one year before entering the U.S. Military Academy. His boyhood ambition was to attend West Point and become a pilot. That ambition began to be fulfilled when he entered the Academy in July 1940.He received his commission in the AAF at the United States Military Academy, West Point, N.Y., where he was graduated in 1943 with a degree in military engineering. Before he went overseas in February, 1944, he received additional training at Mather field, California; Lake Charles, Louisiana; Laurel, Mississippi and Camp Shanks in New York. He completed 52 missions over enemy territory.
Statement from 2nd Lt Kehoe:
"Airplane believed to be that of Lt Boukamp last seen three minutes after leaving target area. Airplane still under control but losing altitude fast with both engines burning. No parachutes seen. Lt Boukamp was wounded to badly to leave ship."
