More information

Capt Donald D. Tomlinson joined the Regular Army in Pullman, Washington, on 30 September 1942.

2nd Lt Harold D. Cox:
"I was flying yellow four on a close support mission for Makeshoe. We bombed the town of Veckring, and encountered some flight flak. Lt Tomlinson, blue flight leader, spotted a gun position and called Pasher leader for permission to strafe. Receiving permission, he made a pass approximately from west to east. I saw him start down and start firing, with the gun he was strafing firing back. Lt Tomlinson kept firing practically all the way down. I did not observe any hits on his aircraft, although he went straight in without any obvious effort to pull out."

He was first buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery of Limey, France.
