1st Lt Victor W. Meyer graduated from Macon High School and attended Kirksville State Teacher College. He was employed at Wood Service Station.He joined the Air Corps of the Regular Army at Jefferson Barracks, Missouri, on 31 October 1941. Upon completion of his training, he served for 25 months as an advanced flight instructor at Luke Field, as Squadron Commander. He was in charge of 36 cadets and 6 instructors.
Lt Meyer was shot down by Me-109s. He parachuted north of Juist Island and was last seen in a dinghy. Air/Sea Rescue couldn't get to him and broadcasted his position on an international frequency for the Germans to find him, but they could not locate him.
His body floated ashore on 6 September 1944 on Memmert Island. He was initially buried at the cemetery on this island on 7 September 1944.
