Barney W. Gregg was born as William Arnold Gregg. He married Frances Marian Frank on 21 May 1937 in Council Bluffs in Iowa.

At the time of his marriage he was a mechanic.

He was sent overseas in June 1944.

Cpl Gregg was initially buried in an isolated grave near Neerkant, in the Netherlands and reburied at Margraten on 30 August 1948.
