More information
T/5 James F. Peters graduated from Dickinson High School and was employed at the American Can Company. Before he enlisted into the Army on 4 August 1943, Peters had attempted to enlist in the Navy three times and in the U.S. Marine Corps once, but was rejected each time due to an eye defect.
On the evening of 13 March 1945, he tended to the wounds of a soldier from another company. He then notified his platoon leader that he would return to his unit after checking for other casualties within that neighboring unit. He never returned.
