Pfc John J. Morgan attended Dickinson High School and worked at the Lackawanna Laundry.He joined the National Guard in Jersey City, New Jersey on 16 September 1940. According to his parents, he was scheduled to be mustered out of the service on 8 December 1941, but due to the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor on 7 December, he remained with his outfit.
He suffered facial wounds in France on 22 July 1944, and convalesced in England before returning to active duty. His brother, Sgt Frank Morgan, a B-17 tail gunner, was able to visit him while he was recuperating. He returned to duty about 3 months later and was fatally felled by wounds to his thorax and neck.
He was first buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery in Limey, France.
