1st Lt James E. Meena graduated from Lincoln High School and from the Cleveland Institute of Music. He was singing in operas and studying to become a priest.

He enlisted in Cleveland, Ohio on 13 May 1941.

He was first buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery of Limey, France.
