1st Lt Douglas A. Herrin attended Sumrall high school for 4 years and Pearl River junior college and he was employed by the L. A. Jones Construction company before he enlisted in Camp Shelby, Mississippi on 1 September 1942.Maj Windle D. Reel:
"Directly over the target area the plane was directly hit either by bombs from a plane flying above or by flak, causing the plane to explode and blowing both plane and occupants to bits."
