More information

S/Sgt Edward R. Golebiewski attended high school for 2 years before he enlisted in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, on 16 May 1942.

Sgt Howard B. Campbell:
"I was a Tail Gunner. A/C 42-3343 was flying right wing in the lead element and A/C 42-3380 was flying left wing in the second element. The first wave of fighters attacked A/C 42-3380 and the plane started pouring out white smoke from the #3 engine. It then fell back and the fighters attacked him again until he started going down with the engine still pouring out the white smoke. I didn’t see any chutes come out of the plane".

1st Lt Marcus S. Baker:
"I believe he was killed on about the second or third time passing us".
