Pfc Samuel Carpenter Jr. was employed by the Republic Steel Corporation before he enlisted in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on 17 November 1943.Pfc Carpenter's nephew, Pvt. Charles W. Carter, was killed six days earlier. He is buried at Netherlands American Cemetery and Memorial in Margraten.
