Grover Long was a graduate of Chaffey high school and was attending Chaffey college when he enlisted in the Army Air forces April 17, 1943. He took his pre-flight training at Santa Ana, was awarded his wings at Deming, N.M., and received combat training at March field prior to assignment to overseas service. He was a B-24 Liberator bombardier-navigator and had been stationed at a bomber base in England since last July. He was a member of the First Christian church.He completed bombardier training at Deming, NM class 44-02.
This crew was assigned on August 15, 1944. Between the time they were assigned and the time they were shot down they flew eight missions. Hit by Flak, plane was in a dive en broken into.
F/O Grover M. Long was first buried at the cemetery of Deutsch Evern (Westside).
