2nd Lt John A. Stacker graduated from Placer Union High School, where he was a member of the football squad. He attended Sacramento Junior College.

He joined the Air Corps of the U.S. Army Reserve at Blythe Army Air Force Base, California, on 5 June 1942. He received his commission in May 1943.

He had been stationed in England for only three months when he was reported missing in action over Europe. He had only flown four missions.

He was seen to bail out of his stricken aircraft and his parachute opened, but nothing else was heard of him after that.
