More information
David joined the 38th Fighter Squadron on 1 May 1943. He was promoted from F/O to 2nd Lt in December 1943.1st Lt Willard L. Kreft reported: "Lt Fisher was flying my wing during an engagement with E/A on Jan. 31, 1944. Lt Fisher left my wing at one time, but later called me, saying he was behind me. During some violent manoeuvring, I left the flight. When I rejoined, Lt Fisher was in third position, and then followed me after a turn. Upon a call to form a defensive formation and head for the coast, our flight joined several other planes. A ship was following me, and thinking it was Lt Fisher, I called to see if he was OK. There was no reply, and as he closed in, the markings disclosed that it belonged to another squadron. Lt Fisher failed to return."
