Pvt James H. Vanover enlisted at Ft Leavenworth, Kansas on 15 December 1943.In Saulcy-sur-Meurthe, a monument was erected, dedicated to the men of A Company who were killed or went missing in action during the battle for the town.
His brother-in-law, Pfc Paul R. Hamm, died 14 July 1945 and is buried at Epinal American Cemetery near him.
