More information

Pfc George N. Poole worked on a farm before he enlisted in Little Rock, Arkansas on 15 September 1942.

Myron Meehan remembered the following:
I made out a medical tag for Pfc George Poole and promised to return after dark with a litter squad. At this moment an automatic weapon opened up on a small cedar tree growing out of the ditch bank right above our heads. I dropped into the protection of the ditch with Poole and the bark chips fell down on my face as I watched that tree being almost cut off. (Someone wanted to let me know that I really hadn't gotten away with anything.) When I returned after dark with a litter squad, Poole had died.
