More information

Sgt Jerome J. Hummel graduated from Chatsworth Township High School in 1941 and was employed in the production of industrial chemical products before he enlisted in Peoria, Illinois on 28 December 1942.

The mission was to drop weapons for the Columneaux cell of the French Resistance. Some witnesses stated the plane clipped a tree and others testified it collided with an RAF plane but the result was the same: the plane crashed at 0030, leaving no survivors.

He was first buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery in Solers, France.

A memorial was erected on the crash side.
