2nd Lt Neil H. Hampton graduated from Ballard High School and attended the University of Washington.He joined the Air Corps of the U.S. Army Reserve in San Antonio, Texas in November 1942 and was sent overseas in June 1944.
The plane was hit near the target and lost one engine. A second engine was lost near the RP and the aircraft had to leave the formation. The aircraft was last seen 30 miles from the RP. The pilot had issued a call for fighter escort, but it is not known if any arrived to assist. The plane crashed after being shot down by flak near Erkrath Germany.
