William H. Arledge attended high school for 3 years. He volunteered for the Army of the United States at Fort McClellan in Alabama on 5 August 1942. He was an employee of the Birmingham printing company in civilian life.Pfc Arledge was hit by a shell, shot from a Tiger tank. He was given morphine against the pain, because a good part of his torso was blown away, but there was nothing they could do for him anymore.
